Kaleidoscope Hexagon Hives

What a beautiful, sunny, spring day! I went outside to check my garden, and to my surprise some of my Crocuses were almost in full bloom... ah, spring.. finally! After what seemed to be the longest winter season that I can recall, it's finally here and I couldn't be happier! I took my pup, Tucker for a walk and noticed quite a few gardens around my neighbourhood with some purples, whites and yellows from the Crocuses too!

I had the day off today, so I had some time to create, my favourite thing to do... some good old-fashioned quality time with ME!

I really LOVE the 'Kaleidoscope designer series papers', even with the Strawberry Slush pink... Now I shouldn't say that I actually do like the colour. I'm not a 'pink' person, but I have been trying to incorporate pinks into my projects for a while now. I naturally tend to gravitate towards oranges and yellows - but I've been trying to give in to the pink. I used the Kaleidoscope papers on both of my cards - but I used them a bit differently. I really love the bold patterns and I really do love the colour combinations within these papers. I had my stamp class last night and we made a fun card using the 'Hexagon Hive' die. So today I decided to take it out for another spin or two..... here's what I came up with...

For my first card I used a base of Basic Black, then cut the 'Hexagon Hive' in Strawberry Slush. I layered the 'hive' cutout onto a piece of the DSP - then I cut 3 more 'hive' diecuts, to get the hexagons. How great is that... more hexagons?! I popped up the solid hexagons in Strawberry Slush, Crushed Curry and Bermuda Bay using Dimensionals. I then added some small heart punches to some of the centers. The 'I heart you' is from the 'Label thinlets' - I added a Strawberry Slush heart for some contrast on the black with a Rhinestone Basic Jewel in the top right of the heart!

My second card, I actually made first. I cut the 'hive' in Basic Black. I cut several of the 'hive' diecuts to get an assortment of hexagons to add to my card. I then filled in each space with various patterns from the Kaleidoscope DSP and some of the colours from the papers in cardstock. I then cut a piece of vellum so that the outside edge of the black peeked through. Before I attached my vellum, I stamped my sentiment "Hooray for today" from the 'Geometrical' stamp set using Black Stazon ink. I put a small bit of Tombo Liquid Glue in the center of some of the hexagons and attached my vellum - I then added a Candy Dot or Rhinestone Basic Jewel to cover the glue. Then I finished with some Whisper White Baker's Twine!
